Game Over for AMD Link: Company Ends Support for Mobile Streaming App

On the Official Website of AMD, it has been confirmed that AMD discontinues Link App, a move that comes shortly after Apple’s decision to allow game streaming services on the iPhone.

The AMD Link mobile app, available on both iOS and Android, allowed gamers to stream games from PCs equipped with Radeon graphics cards and provided remote control and monitoring of PC gaming functions.

However, AMD has announced that future versions of its Adrenalin driver package will no longer integrate this mobile streaming solution. According to AMD’s official statement, when the company introduced AMD Link in 2017, there were limited alternative remote gaming solutions for Radeon graphics users.

But Why?

AMD Discontinues Link App 01

With the expansion of options, including PC-to-PC streaming apps like Steam Link and subscription services like Xbox Game Pass and Nvidia’s GeForce Now, AMD considers its own mobile streaming efforts redundant. Consequently, AMD has decided to reallocate resources to other areas.

Despite the business rationale behind the decision, it has raised eyebrows within the gaming community. The AMD Link app on the Google Play Store has been downloaded between one and five million times, but user satisfaction appears to be mixed, with an average rating of 2.9 out of 5.

On iOS, the app has received more positive reviews, albeit from a smaller user base, with only 11 written reviews available at the time of reporting.

As of now, both the iOS and Android apps are still available for download, and they likely remain functional. However, it is anticipated that the apps will cease to work with an upcoming release of AMD’s Adrenalin desktop software package.

AMD users who have relied on the Radeon Link mobile app for game streaming and remote control functions may need to explore alternative solutions as AMD shifts its focus away from this particular offering. However even if AMD Discontinues Link App, more alternatives will come to aid those gamed.
